ADL New York Region Takes Action Against Anti-Semitic Incident in Westchester

  • April 3, 2014

When reports surfaced that a Westchester fire chief had made anti-Semitic remarks about an elected official, ADL immediately took action.  The controversy came to light in two separate sworn depositions taken earlier this year. According to one deponent, Fairview Fire Chief Anthony LoGiudice referred to Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner as a “… sucking Jew bastard” while another deponent alleged that LoGuidice made reference to Feiner’s religion and called him a “…sucker.”

ADL New York Regional Director Evan Bernstein sent a letter to Fairview’s Board of Fire Commissioners, calling on them to investigate the crude anti-Semitic slurs and, if they were true, to issue a public apology. In an interview with News 12 Westchester, Bernstein emphasized that “We cannot tolerate any kind of behavior like this from anybody, especially people that are in positions of power.”

On March 28, 2014, the New York Times published an article covering the story which included the information that LoGuidice had ultimately taken responsibility for his actions and apologized to Feiner.
