It is vitally important that Congress act to protect one of our most fundamental rights as U.S. citizens, the right to vote. That is why we need you to urge Congress to pass the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014 (VRAA).

In 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA), dramatically limiting its effectiveness and reach.  Since its enactment, the VRA has helped to eliminate discriminatory barriers to full civic participation for millions of Americans, and has sparked significant advances for equal political participation at all levels of government. It now falls on Congress to pass legislation to update the VRA to protect all voters.

Please help ADL by contacting our New York House Judiciary Committee members, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Jerrold Nadler, and ask them to urge House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte to schedule a hearing on this bill. You may not reside within these two districts, but as a citizen of New York we still encourage you to engage these members, especially through social media.
