ADL Participates in Panel on Influence of Social Media

  • May 27, 2014

On Thursday, May 22, 2014, ADL took part in a panel discussion called “#Impact Now: The Influence of Social Media,” which took place at a conference organized by the Nassau County chapter of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization.

A researcher from ADL’s national Research Center presented on how the internet and social media are increasingly used as a weapon against Israel and the Jewish community and ADL’s response to these tactics. In his remarks, our researcher addressed anti-Israel campaigns that have gained popularity over the years as a result of social media, as well as hacking efforts by politically motivated anti-Semitic groups to deface or bring down Jewish and Israeli websites. He also provided conference participants with specific recommendations and guidance for what they could do to fight hate online.

To assist Internet users in navigating the various mechanisms available for reporting online hate speech, the Anti-Defamation League has provided the public with the ADL Cyber-Safety Action Guide, a user-friendly online platform where consumers can learn how and where to report bigoted, bullying or hateful speech to the major Internet providers and social media sites.  The Guide features tabs where visitors may access information on submitting complaints and reporting hate speech to the major online companies, including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

ADL’s New York Regional office provides expert speakers as a community resource to appear at local events and community groups. To learn more about how to include ADL at your local event, please contact our office at 212-885-7970 or email us at NewYork@adl.org.
