ADL Condemns Anti-Muslim Graffiti In Brooklyn

  • May 6, 2013

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned anti-Muslim graffiti that was found in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay.  The phrase “Dumb Muslims Die” was found spray painted on a sidewalk in front of a home on Avenue Z.

Etzion Neuer, ADL Acting New York Regional Director, issued the following statement:

We deplore this disturbing act of bigotry, which is an affront to the entire Muslim community and the community at large.

An act of hate like this sends shock waves through an entire community and makes residents feel unsafe and it is critical that we reaffirm our commitment to remaining united in speaking out against hate.

We commend the NYPD and its Hate Crimes Task Force for their immediate response, and we hope that the perpetrator will be brought swiftly to justice.

The League continues to maintain close contact with the NYPD on hate crimes issues and has spoken out in response to other apparent anti-Muslim hate crimes.  In November 2012, ADL strongly condemned an anti-Muslim attack on a man outside of the Masjid-Saliheen mosque on Kissena Boulevard in Queens.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
