ADL Shocked at Violent Attacks Against Jews in Crown Heights; Offers $5,000 Reward for Information in Eastern Parkway Assault

  • November 4, 2015

New York, NY November 4, 2015 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed shock and horror at two apparently unrelated incidents of violence in Crown Heights, Brooklyn — the stabbing of Jewish man last night and the assault of another man early this morning on his way to synagogue.

On November 3rd around 9 p.m., a Jewish man was approached from behind on Eastern Parkway when he was slashed in the shoulder by an assailant who quickly fled the scene following the assault. There have been no arrests at this time.

ADL announced today it is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the Eastern Parkway slashing.

Earlier today, in a second and apparently unrelated incident, at approximately 6 a.m., a Jewish man was walking along Lefferts Avenue when an assailant allegedly approached him, knocked his phone out of his hand, and punched him in the face.  According to reports, while being placed under arrest by the NYPD, the suspect allegedly stated, “I’m tired and fed up of the Jews.”

“We are shocked and horrified by these unprovoked violent attacks against Jews,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York Regional Director. “Anti-Semitism simply has no place in New York City. We commend the NYPD and Brooklyn Borough President Adams for their quick response to these crimes. We are confident that the NYPD is devoting resources to their investigation and are increasing patrols in the area in the wake of these attacks.”

Evan R. Bernstein stood with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams at a press conference to address the violent attacks against Jews in Crown Heights.  The press conference included Michael S. Miller, Executive Vice President & CEO Jewish Community Relations Council; Chanina Sperlin, Executive VP of Governmental Affairs at Crown Heights Jewish Community Council; NY State Assemblyman Dov Hikind; and NYC Council Member Laurie Cumbo.
