ADL “Terribly Disturbed” by Anti-Semitic Graffiti Discovered on a Brooklyn Jewish School

  • May 3, 2015

New York, NY, May 3, 2015 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed concern over anti-Semitic graffiti discovered at The Mirrer Yeshiva in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The graffiti appeared on a flier posted outside of the school on the Jewish Sabbath, May 2, and according to reports, included the phrases “Hitler lives,” “Jews are on the take,” “Heil Hitler,” and “Jews are all cons.”

“We are terribly disturbed by this troubling graffiti on a Brooklyn yeshiva which espoused the worst kind of anti-Semitism,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York Regional Director. “Any time references to Hitler, the Nazis and the Holocaust are scrawled on the outside of a Jewish institution, it threatens the reality of Jews being able to securely practice their faith free of threats, and leaves quite an impact on the community at large.”

Mr. Bernstein added, “The NYPD takes acts of anti-Semitism with the utmost seriousness and we welcome the department’s inquiry into this incident as a hate crime.”

According to ADL’s annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, New York City experienced 147 incidents in 2014, including 55 in Brooklyn.
